This margarita is truly a firecracker with the homemade Thai chili infused Tequila that really gives it a bite and the cascading blood orange juice reminds me of trailing fireworks on the Fourth of July. Try your hand at infusing the Tequila and mixing a batch for your friends at your next summer party.
The Firecracker isn’t just for July 4th!

Ingredients:
cubed ice
2 ounces Thai chili tequila*
1 1/2 ounces fresh lime juice (approximately 21/2 limes)
1 ounce orange liqueur
1 1/2 ounces ounce blood-orange juice
1 lime wedge
1 fresh Thai chili pepper (optional)
coarse salt for rim (optional)
* FOR THE TEQUILA:
3 small, fresh thai chiles, halved lengthwise, seeds and stems removed
1 (750-milliliter) bottle Tequila Don Julio Blanco
Place red chiles in tequila. Allow to infuse for 1 to 2 days.
(tip: if you can’t find fresh Thai chili use 6 dried Thai chili
Directions -
Fill cocktail shaker and glass with ice. Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur to the shaker and (1) shake vigorously. (2) Strain into glass over ice and (3) gently pour the blood orange into the glass (tip: pour over the back of a spoon to keep form mixing with the margarita mixture)(4) garnish with a fresh Thai chili and lime wedge.
Make Ahead
The margarita recipe can be prepared through Step 1 and refrigerated, covered, overnight.
