Vote Mark Addison – BizBash Event Designer of the Year
Mark was nominated for a BizBash Readers Choice Award for Event Designer for 2011.
I honor of his nomination we designed a Shepard Fairey style campaign poster. Does it look familiar? President Obama used a similar campaign poster during the 2008 Presidential Election.
The poster was designed with a Quick Response Code (QR Code) that can be scanned using a smart phone (iPhone, Droid, etc…). You can scan the code on screen or print it out and share with your family and friends.
Help Mark win by voting here. You can vote once everyday until October 16th, 2011. Please forward this post to your friends by sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In etc…
Stay tuned for the voting results on October 19th.
The Royal Wedding
At your next celebration, bring the chic class of the Royal Wedding to your table with details only Buckingham Palace could inspire. With sustainable flower arrangements, monogrammed plates, and napkin rings that become fascinators, your guests will surely feel like royalty.
Inspired by the 20 ft. maples Kate and Will had brought into Westminster Abbey, these small topiaries bring to mind old English gardens and specifically the Palace Gardens, where much of the greenery for the wedding came from. PK and PW (their street names) wanted to be sustainably green and entirely British for their big day!
Let the flowers speak for you. Not only does a good centerpiece transform a table, but flowers have meaning, too. These arrangements were created in bowls from Ruth Fischl, in white and green, the same colors as the royal wedding florals. The flowers included white roses, which are a natural symbol for love, as well as England, pear blossoms for good fortune, and lilies of the valley, which symbolize sweetness and humility. In addition to being absolutely gorgeous, all of the flowers were regional and representative of either the qualities that the couple will strive to bring to their relationship, and to England.
For the first time in history, the monogram of a royal couple shows the lady’s name on top. To avoid any crass remarks about a Water Cabinet, the Queen did the sensible thing, and reversed tradition. You can create your own monogram by printing it out on vellum paper. Use copy fx paper (found at your local art store) in gold or silver and use your home printer to transfer the design you made onto vellum paper. Lay these over your plates and make your guests feel like royalty when they see their own initials!
Every detail counts, and sometimes it’s the smaller ones like gold rimmed glasses that make your event seem truly chic. After all, it’s such a subtle touch your guests might think you always drink this stylishly.
Inspired by Pippa’s controversial foray into disco at the Royal Reception, these table mirrors in various sized bring a sophisticated shimmer to your tabletop. They catch the reflection of glassware, florals, and light, which makes it almost as though you have a chandelier on top of your table rather than above it.
The Brits are famous for hats. From those which have the wingspan of two eagles to those which jut out from the forehead like small cakes, there is perhaps no other fashion tradition which carries with it such repute. Inspired by these ornate status symbols worn at the Royal Wedding, I created fascinators – the napkin ring that also makes your guests chic and posh by doubling as an accessory that is almost as elaborate as those hats themselves.
Don’t worry, I didn’t forget the gentleman guests. For them, the fascinatiere! A napkin ring that doubles as a boutonniere to heighten the appeal of any dashing fellow.
Get ready for a classy affair.

Social calendars are filled with cocktail parties, dinner parties and major summer happenings such as one of my favorite mega Hamptons events (one that I produce) called Super Saturday, benefitting The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. This year, the event will be hosted by fashion icon Donna Karan and A-list celebrities including Kelly Ripa and Twilight star Ashley Greene.
With inspiration from the Hamptons scene, I have created a party theme I’ve dubbed “Beach Shack Meets Beach Chic.” To replicate this look in your own backyard, try the following tips, guaranteed to bring the elegance of the Hamptons to your home all summer long.

Mark's Super Bowl Party Style on "Better"

With Super Bowl Sunday hot on our heels, it’s only natural that we get into the spirit of the game with football-themed party ideas. Most of us can recall the default Super Bowl party: everyone huddles around the TV drinking beer and eating potato chips and onion dip… not so SUPER!
This year, score a touchdown (pun intended…) with friends and family with a WOW table equipped with food, fun and, yes, even games fit for all “whether your there for the love of the game or just to watch the commercials”. Mark recently met up with “Better” host Audra Lowe and gave her a few pointers on how to create an exciting environment inspired by this year’s Super Bowl home: Miami, Florida!
For the pre-game festivities, we brought the thrill of competition from the tube to the table. Taking inspiration from Super Bowl XLIV’s dualing sides, we created two drinks that will surely get your guests into the game. The Colt 45 cocktail, named for the Indianapolis Colts, takes a bit out of the competition with a secret ingredient: energy cola. On the other side, we have the All-Saints, named for the New Orleans Saints. The All-Saints explodes the flavors of the French Quarter on your taste buds.
As an extra special treat, we’ve created customized scoreboards that tally which team drink is consumed the most number of times. At the end of the game, pending the fun leaves at least one sober participant, tally up and see which team won!
Miami has a flair that is hardly matched to any other city in the United States. To start the game off right, we have a starting line-up of chips and salsa, Miami Style! Mixing a variety of exotic potato crisps served up in a football helmet with two flavorful homemade dips will keep hands greedy for a taste.
The half-time festivities are the star of your show. This is when you present guests with your main course. For our half-time presentation, we created a mini version of a Miami favorite: Cuban Sliders served with Mojo Mayo and Cumin Ketchup. We added a few party decorations to our platters and – voila! – we brought all the glitz and glamor of a half-time celebration that not only entertains guests, but also adds a much-needed pizazz to the table.
Another great option for a half-time meal is Twice Drunken Chili. Made with Mexican ale and our Thai-Chili infused tequila, Twice Drunken Chili kick starts any lagging tongue with over-the-top flavor.
We end the game on a sweet note with Post-Game Desserts. We couldn’t create a Miami-inspired WOW table without some Miami-style desserts. And what goes better with burgers than milkshakes! In classic flavors like Papaya, Dulce De Leche and south Florida’s own Key Lime Pie. The trio of mini milkshakes are just the perfect size to enjoy all three!
If you’re really looking to impress your Super Bowl party guests with something off the beaten path of beer and pizza, try this WOW table out. It’s entertaining and, best of all, an easy solution to get you out of the kitchen and into the game!
